LA PALMA : Arsonist Strikes at Private School

Fire officials on Tuesday were investigating two arson fires set in one building on the grounds of La Palma Christian School.
The building at 8082 Walker Ave., which is used by a Korean Christian group, was broken into about 6 p.m. Monday, said Emmy Day, a spokeswoman with the Orange County Fire Department.
An inside sprinkler system helped extinguish the blazes but was not hooked up to an alarm, so no one noticed the fire until 8:12 p.m., she said.
Interior damage by smoke and water was valued at about $10,000, and exterior damage was nearly $2,000, Day said.
Police Sgt. Jim Wells said the arsonist entered the building through an unlocked door, then somehow opened a locked office door to set the two fires.
“We don’t know if the fires were set to cover up a burglary or what,” Wells said.
