KRON-TV Drops ‘Early Prime Time’

SAN FRANCISCO — KRON-TV, the NBC affiliate here, has decided after a 17-month trial to throw in the towel on “early prime time.”
In a costly experiment, KRON--owned by Chronicle Publishing Co.--switched in February, 1992, to broadcasting network programming from 7 to 10 p.m. rather than 8 to 11 p.m.
At the time, KRON and CBS affiliate KPIX, a rival station that also made the shift, hoped to find a ready market for the change among early-to-bed baby boomers. However, the station said, “no significant changes in prime-time viewing patterns emerged.”
KPIX said it plans to stick with the earlier schedule.
