Chavez Denounces Officer as a Traitor

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Saturday there’s no risk of a military rebellion against him, and he called a dissident officer a traitor for asserting that there is unrest in the armed forces.
“There is no serious opposition” in Venezuela, Chavez said in a Chilean State Television interview.
Air force Col. Pedro Soto urged military officers Thursday to defy Chavez. Soto demanded that the president resign and allow a civilian interim government to take power until new elections.
Chavez said Soto was frustrated because he was passed over for promotion. Soto has until today to report to his superiors before officers are dispatched to arrest him.
