A 14-month-old girl was in stable but serious condition Sunday after crawling through a doggy door and later being found floating in a backyard swimming pool, Huntington Beach police said.
During a birthday celebration for Christopher Rathkey, who had turned 14, relatives lost track of the girl at a home on Danube Drive, police said. The victim was not identified.
Christopher dived in and pulled the unconscious toddler from the water and another relative began CPR. The victim had crawled through a 7-by-12-inch doggy door that led from the house to the backyard, said Sgt. John Cottriel.
She was taken to Huntington Beach Hospital, then transferred to Children’s Hospital of Orange County in Orange.
