FEATS OF THE WEEK
* Tim Drisdom had 21 points, 13 rebounds, 12 assists and 10 steals in Downey Calvary Chapel’s 73-45 victory against Palos Verdes Peninsula Chadwick in a Division IV-A second-round game.
* Gardena Serra nearly set a school record for points in a 135-32 victory against Chino Hills Boys’ Republic in a Division IV-A second-round game. Serra scored 140 points in a victory against L.A. Salesian during the 1980-81 season.
* Aaron Clitheroe made nine three-point baskets and scored 35 points for La Canada Renaissance Academy in a 67-39 victory against La Verne Calvary Baptist in a Division V-A first-round game.
* Banning’s Joey Saavedra scored 42 points during the Pilots’ 69-64 victory against Sun Valley Poly in the first round of the City Section Invitational playoffs.
CLUTCH
* Walnut’s Darnell Gilbert scored on a driving layup with seven seconds left to send the Mustangs’ Division I-A wild-card game against Huntington Beach Marina into overtime. Walnut won, 61-53.
* Danny Carlos’ layup with less than three seconds left gave Whittier a 62-60 victory against Covina Charter Oak in a Division II-A first-round game.
* Santa Fe Springs St. Paul’s Kevin Dyer made a layup with 11 seconds left to lift the Swordsmen to a 47-45 victory against Orange Lutheran in a Division IV-AA first-round game.
UPSETS
* Gavin MacGregor scored 22 points and had 17 rebounds for Ridgecrest Burroughs in a 64-61 victory against third-seeded La Canada in a Division III-A first-round game.
* Canyon Country Canyon, which finished third in the Foothill League, defeated Almont League champion Montebello, 59-43, in a Division I-A first-round game.
* Riverside North followed a Division I-A wild-card victory against Lake Forest El Toro with an 82-67 victory against Sunbelt League champion Moreno Valley Rancho Verde in the first round.
LOOKING AHEAD
* Bellflower St. John Bosco (22-6) plays host to El Dorado (23-4) Tuesday in a Division II-AA second-round game that matches Brave standout Giovanni St. Amant against Golden Hawk star David Patten. Amant had 40 points and 15 rebounds in St. John Bosco’s first-round victory against West Valley, and Patten had 29 points and 20 rebounds to lead El Dorado past Burbank.
* Fremont will attempt to give Coach Sam Sullivan his first road victory against Crenshaw in 25 years Wednesday when the Cougars (20-7) play host to the Pathfinders (21-5) in a City Section quarterfinal game.
* Giant-killer Los Alamitos (17-10) can notch another victim on its belt Tuesday when it plays host to fourth-seeded Los Angeles Loyola (23-3) in a Division I-A second-round game. The Griffins defeated the division’s top-seeded team, Mission Viejo, and third-seeded team, Thousand Oaks, in the regular season.
