The Bahamas Defense Force detained 237 Haitians on a sailboat in the Bahamas, the second large boatload stopped in the country this week, officials said.
The 191 men and 46 women were on a 50-foot wooden boat stopped Wednesday in the Exuma Cays, in the central Bahamas, the Defense Force said. It wasn’t immediately clear what condition the migrants were in or how long they had been at sea.
Bahamian authorities detained 107 Haitians on Tuesday in a sailboat in the same area, about 125 miles southeast of Nassau, the capital.
