New Year’s Gunfire Declines for 6th Year

From Times Staff Reports

The number of reports of people firing into the air to celebrate the New Year has declined for a sixth year, police said Friday.

Last year, there were 500 reports of shots fired by revelers; this year, the number was 393, said Officer Guillermo Campos. Police said programs to educate people about the dangers of firing in the air contributed to the decline.
