Storm Departs, but Wintry Blast Not Over

The snowstorm that brought much of the South to a standstill moved offshore, but cold air in its wake threatened to refreeze the slush and extend the misery.
Sunny skies began melting the remnants of the two-day storm that dumped up to 16 inches of snow in parts of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. The icy blast was blamed for at least 10 traffic deaths.
But frigid overnight temperatures were expected to freeze the runoff, and rain mixed with light snow was expected in parts of the Carolinas and Virginia by Sunday. Frost was expected as far south as Miami.
