Garbage in, Garbage out

Throw the computers down a mine shaft and exile the nerds to East Timor. Surely Miami has a great team, but with all of the crucial penalties, that same ragged performance against Oregon would have produced a contest.

After watching over a quarter of the Miami-Nebraska fiasco, I have a suggestion for the BCS computer.

Somebody should HARD DRIVE that thing into a wall. No more RAMming these mismatches down our throats. It MEGA-HERTZ watching, even my MOTHER was BOARD.

Regarding Diane Pucin’s excellent column on Oregon (Jan. 2): She says of Nebraska’s high computer ranking, “Blame the programming geeks for that.”

A word about “programming geeks:” They did not make the rules about college rankings. They just put into computer code what the nongeek, football “experts” in the BCS tell them to. I manage “programming geeks,” and that’s all they do--they make the computer do what the business experts want.

You can’t blame the geeks for the BCS fiasco.
