Man Is Indicted in Anthrax Mail Hoax

A Northern California man was indicted Tuesday on a charge of mailing a letter purportedly containing anthrax powder to the IRS office in Los Angeles.
Israel A. Rodriguez, 24, of San Pablo apparently wanted to get his girlfriend in trouble, the FBI said.
He placed her name and address on the envelope containing baking soda and a note that, among other things, said, “Here is anthrax,” according to the FBI.
An employee at an Irwindale mail processing facility became suspicious because the letter was oddly sized, the FBI said. When he picked it up, he noticed white powder coming out.
