A former Air Force Reserve medic was arrested Thursday after he allegedly threatened to shoot a Valencia teacher and her co-workers, authorities said.
Sheriff’s deputies booked Mathieu Dyer, 32, of Frazier Park on suspicion of making terrorist threats, in connection with calls he made to his former girlfriend, a schoolteacher at Helmers Elementary School in Valencia.
Other teachers at the school said Dyer said Monday that he’d shoot them, authorities said. When detectives asked Dyer about those reports, he said he meant “chute,” as in “parachute.” Dyer spelled out “chute” in some of his calls, Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Peters said.
Investigators confiscated several handguns, rifles, shotguns and 2,600 rounds of ammunition from Dyer’s home.
“It doesn’t matter what he says he meant when it comes to a terrorist threat,” Peters said. “It matters that the victims believed his threat and that he had a present ability to carry it out.”
