Gunmen killed 12 people in India’s Jammu and Kashmir state, but authorities said the attackers did not come from Pakistan.
The assailants opened fire in the house of Zakir Hussain, killing eight children, two men and two women, including Hussain’s pregnant wife, police said.
State Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah blamed the attack on a police deserter conspiring with local militants to carry out a family vendetta, the Press Trust of India news agency reported. He said police have arrested three suspects.
