New Wal-Mart Store’s Opening Will Be Delayed

HUNTINGTON BEACH — A Wal-Mart that has been fought by neighbors will not open as scheduled today, because the company failed to finish several on-site projects, city officials said. Wal-Mart disputes the accusation.
The store, at Talbert Avenue and Beach Boulevard, twice failed an electrical inspection, a city spokesman said.
In addition, several projects at nearby Lambert Park--adding a railing, improving handicapped access and sandblasting--that were part of the city’s approval for the store had not been completed in time for the opening, the spokesman said.
