Food Aid Reaches City Ravaged by Volcano

The first bulk supplies of food flowed into Goma, Congo, six days after its residents lost much of their city to Africa’s deadliest volcanic eruption in 25 years.
Hundreds of hungry residents flooded into 10 distribution points to get sacks of corn and vegetable oil provided by the United Nations.
“I’m so happy we have got the food. I’ve got 15 children, and they haven’t eaten anything since Thursday,” said Angelina Mabinte, 32, waiting at a distribution center.
The U.N. World Food Program aims to distribute about 275 tons of food, which it says is enough to feed 70,000 people for a week.
