In a strike against Italy’s top Mafia boss, police have arrested 28 people in Sicily accused of sheltering the elusive Bernardo Provenzano, a name on the country’s wanted list for nearly four decades.
Those arrested Thursday included Provenzano’s brother-in-law and nephew as well as the alleged administrator of his assets, Pino Lipari, and Lipari’s wife, adult children and son-in-law.
Police also have frozen several bank accounts to cut off the Sicilian mobster’s money supply, prosecutors said.
