Cuba’s most prominent political prisoner, Oscar Elias Biscet, left prison after serving a three-year sentence, prison officials said. Biscet, a doctor turned human rights activist, was let out of a high-security prison in the eastern province of Holguin, prison guards said. At a press conference before an international summit in Havana three years ago, Biscet displayed a Cuban flag upside down to criticize the lack of freedom in Cuba.
He was charged with dishonoring national symbols, public disorder and instigating crime.
