Ventura County Championships
When: Today, 3 p.m.
Where: Lake Casitas
What: Phillip Reid of Oxnard Rio Mesa and Simi Valley Royal, The Times’ No. 8-ranked boys’ team in the Southland, are favored to win their second consecutive titles. Ventura, ranked seventh, is favored to win the girls’ team title. No. 4 Thousand Oaks is expected to keep its top runners out of the meet to conserve energy for the final month of the season. Lauren Morales of Oak Park, Sarah Montez of Royal and Katie Gose of Thousand Oaks La Reina are expected to battle for the individual championship.

Tru-West Memorial tournament
When: Today and Saturday
Where: San Jose Lynbrook and Bellarmine high schools
What: Corona del Mar, Lake Forest El Toro, Santa Ana Foothill, Long Beach Wilson, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake, San Clemente and Newport Harbor will join San Diego Section power Coronado, the tournament’s defending champion, to take on eight of the best teams from Northern California. The championship game is 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Bellarmine.
