Too much detail?

While I was glad to see an article about Dave Eggers’ recent publishing endeavors (“Eggers’ Trail of Broken Hearts,” by Shawn Hubler, Oct. 20), I was strongly disappointed by the section about his sister. The discussion of her death was handled inappropriately and callously, including unnecessary details about the circumstances, apparently for sensational effect. The article addressed Mr. Eggers’ professional efforts as a novelist, publisher and publicity-dodger; there was no need to dish out those painful, personal details. Such an approach reflects the increasingly objectionable condition of The Times’ journalistic standards.
