Iran’s supreme leader pardoned a former interior minister serving a five-year sentence for dissent, state media said.
Abdollah Nouri, a cleric and close ally of President Mohammad Khatami, had served more than two years.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei granted the pardon after a request from the parliament speaker and legislators. Nouri was sentenced in 1999 for saying Khamenei -- who conservatives believe answers only to God -- was not above the law.
