Judge Puts Cockfighting Ban on Hold for Review

A state court granted a temporary injunction barring enforcement of Oklahoma’s new law to outlaw cockfighting, just days after voters approved a ban on the blood sport.
Judge Willard Driesel said in his ruling he will examine “whether or not constitutionally protected actions and freedoms are being prohibited or invaded.” He will consider whether the measure unfairly interferes with commerce or deprives game fowl breeders of property without just compensation.
