William Marrie, 33, a classically trained lead dancer in the Twyla Tharp-Billy Joel show “Movin’ Out,” which is now on Broadway, died Saturday in New York of injuries suffered Friday night when his motorcycle collided with a taxi.
Marrie starred as Eddie, the Long Island mechanic and Vietnam veteran, in matinee performances of the dialogue-free production.
Born in Montreal, Marrie studied at the Ecole Superieur de Danse du Quebec and the Banff School of Performing Arts. In 1990, he joined the National Ballet of Canada, and five years later became a soloist. He was featured prominently in “Swan Lake” and “Four Seasons,” and was named a principal dancer in 2002.
Two years ago, in guest performances with the American Ballet Theater in New York, Marrie starred as Petruchio in “Taming of the Shrew.” He was praised for his acting as well as his dancing in the strenuous role.
