Ashanti earns five AMA nominations

R&B; singer Ashanti tops the list of nominees announced Tuesday for the American Music Awards with five, one more than Eminem and Nelly each received for the 30th annual competition. Winners will be announced Jan. 13 in a show televised on ABC.
Other multiple nominees are Pink, Celine Dion, B2K, Nappy Roots, Enrique Iglesias, Linkin Park, Creed, Dixie Chicks, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney and Toby Keith.
The show, to be held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and hosted by the Osbournes, has 63 nominated musicians or albums competing in 20 categories. Nominations are based on sales and airplay figures, and winners will be determined by a nationwide public opinion poll.
