Museum to add shows in Spanish

With money and assistance from the country’s largest Spanish-language television network, the Museum of Television & Radio will add a collection of Spanish-language radio and TV programs from this country, Spain and Latin America to its archives.
Univision, which is providing the grant, reaches the overwhelming majority of Spanish-speaking viewers in the United States. In the coming months, Univision will donate 100 hours of programming, including the 50 years of broadcasts of “Premio Lo Nuestro,” the network’s annual Spanish-language music award show.
“Particularly after the 2000 Census came out, we realized how significant the Spanish-speaking population was, and we wanted Spanish-language programming,” said Bob Batscha, the museum’s president, who said Spanish-language content had been a priority for some time. “But we’re a relatively new institution, and you can’t do everything at once.”
