A 21-year-old Oxnard man died Thursday when he failed to yield for a stop sign at a busy intersection and his car was broadsided by a sport utility vehicle, authorities said.
Commercial fisherman Jose Luis Gonzales Guzman died about 2:45 a.m. at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, about an hour after the crash at K and 5th streets, said Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens.
Authorities said Guzman was driving a Dodge Neon south on K Street when he failed to stop at the sign. A Ford Explorer carrying three people and headed west on 5th Street slammed into the driver’s side of Guzman’s car.
The 29-year-old driver of the Explorer and his two passengers, ages 52 and 23, all of Oxnard, suffered minor injuries.
