U.S. Army Was Right to Discharge Gays

Re “In the Enemy’s Presence, Army Discards Some Valuable Assets,” Nov. 17: Steve Lopez misses the point regarding the homosexual servicemen who were kicked out of the Defense Language Institute. They have knowingly deceived the U.S. government. They joined the armed forces while knowing the rules. Are those the people we want defending our country?
Lopez describes how a serviceman was caught in bed with his gay lover on military grounds at 3:30 a.m. How stupid can these guys be? Do we really want them running U.S. intelligence against well-financed terrorists who have managed to elude the U.S. government for more than a year?
