From Times Wire Reports
The city has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a lower court ruling requiring it to make sidewalks accessible to disabled people. The case is expected to be a test of whether the 1990 federal Americans with Disabilities Act applies to sidewalks.
City officials say they’re concerned about the cost of the repairs, which would include rebuilding some sidewalks and moving bus benches and utility poles out of the way.
But advocates for the disabled say the bigger issue is their right to move freely in their daily lives.
