Ban on British Beef in ‘Mad Cow’ Scare Ends

France lifted its 6-year-old ban on British beef imports after its food safety standards agency concluded that the meat is free of “mad cow” disease and no longer poses a health threat.
France banned British beef in 1996 over fears of spreading the disease, formally known as bovine spongiform encephalopathy. Before the ban, France was Britain’s biggest export market for beef.
