Dell Computer Corp. expects to pass the combined Hewlett-Packard Co. and Compaq Computer Corp. and reclaim the top spot in personal computer sales when the figures from the quarter just ended are tallied.
At a meeting with financial analysts in Austin, Texas, Dell officials said they are continuing to gain market share from HP and other rivals. But they said Dell has more opportunity in selling computer servers, storage and services.
The comments came a day after Dell raised its sales forecast for its fiscal quarter ending this month. The firm’s stock rose 68 cents to $25.32 on Nasdaq.
