One woman died and three others were injured on a Pasadena sidewalk Tuesday after a two-car collision caused a sport utility vehicle to veer into a bus stop bench, police said.
Veronica Calenzani, 29, was standing behind the bench on North Lake Avenue at East Mountain Street about 11:40 a.m. when a southbound Mazda sedan turning left into a driveway collided with a northbound Chevrolet Suburban.
The driver of the Suburban veered onto the sidewalk and knocked over the bench, injuring the three people sitting on it. The SUV then ran over Calenzani, who died at the scene, Police Lt. David Richter said.
The injured were taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where one was treated and released. The conditions of the others weren’t available, but police said their injuries weren’t life-threatening.
Police remained at the scene throughout most of day but had not determined fault. Traffic investigators questioned both drivers at the scene.
The driver of the Mazda, a 50-year-old woman, suffered minor cuts and bruises, police said. The SUV driver, an 18-year-old man, was unhurt.
