A former police officer accused of firing a rifle repeatedly from his apartment window and wounding a preschool teacher was sent to Bellevue Hospital Center for psychiatric evaluation.
Brian Berrigan, 33, had been expected in Manhattan Criminal Court for arraignment on attempted murder and other charges, but his lawyer said he was admitted to Bellevue’s psychiatric ward.
Police said the shooting began Wednesday morning at Stuyvesant Town, a middle-class Manhattan apartment complex housing more than 25,000 people.
