At 50 Miles More, Wall Is Greater Than Before

A new, 50-mile section of the Great Wall of China has been discovered in the nation’s north, centuries after being buried by sands that blow across the area each year, the government said. The segment, on the southern slope of Helan Mountain, sits about 25 miles west of Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia province, the official New China News Agency reported.
The 21-foot-high chunk of wall, 20 feet wide at its base and 11 feet wide at the top, was built in 1531, the agency said. The Great Wall, from the north-central province of Gansu to China’s east coast, is believed to span up to 3,700 miles.
