Proposed Dairies Are Allowed to Proceed

A Kern County judge has approved an environmental report for two proposed 14,000-cow dairies, allowing the project to go forward.
During the last two years, Judge Roger Randall twice has ordered additional review for the projects, but said this week the latest environmental review was sufficient.
George and James Borba have been proposing to build the two separate dairies for the last four years.
In 1998, environmental groups filed suit when it appeared the dairies would be approved by Kern County without environmental review. The groups sued again two years ago after they said they weren’t satisfied with the environmental report.
Environmental groups said this week they haven’t decided whether to appeal the judge’s ruling, made Tuesday.
