Family car trip was full of charms

Susan Spano’s article, “Kitschy Keepsakes From Family Car Trips Remain the Stuff of Memories” (Oct. 6), brought back wonderful memories of our family’s first car trip from California to my parents’ hometown in Iowa in the 1960s.
My mother wanted to be sure we collected some nice souvenirs along the way. Before we left home, she gave my two sisters and me silver bracelets so we could collect charms at places we visited. Almost 40 years later I still have my bracelet, with dozens of charms and wonderful memories.
