Council Votes to Make Spillway a Monument

The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to designate a 900-foot spillway in Sylmar as a local historical and cultural monument.
The “Cascades,” the terminus of the Los Angeles Aqueduct, has been instrumental in bringing Owens Valley water to the city since 1913. A spokesman for Councilman Alex Padilla, who made the proposal, said the motion must now be considered by the city’s Cultural Heritage Commission on Nov. 6.
