Study finds cities are decentralizing

Major cities nationwide are moving toward decentralization, according to a new survey of census data released by the Brookings Institution Center on Urban and Metropolitan Policy.
The study’s findings show that revitalized central business districts in the 100 largest cities are often “islands” surrounded by neighborhoods experiencing significant population decay, and that 62% of all major-city population growth occurred along suburban borders, compared with just 11% in the city cores.
