A Port Hueneme man was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder following the severe beating of his girlfriend near her residence.
Byron Williams, 23, was arrested at gunpoint by Ventura police officers who responded to neighbors’ calls about a domestic violence incident occurring about midnight in the 5200 block of Shenandoah Street. When police arrived, they said Williams was outside and continued to strike the 22-year-old woman with his hands and feet.
“Witnesses at the scene were shocked at the amount of injuries she had,” said Lt. David Wilson. “To have a domestic disturbance this severe is not normal.”
The woman, whom authorities did not identify, was taken to Ventura County Medical Center. Wilson said she remained in critical condition late Sunday.
Williams is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday afternoon.
