A man was arrested Friday after a gunman who knocked on the door of a plumber’s house in Stanton claiming to need help tried to rob the plumber’s wife, deputies said.
Uegeno Perez, 25, was being held at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of robbery. His last known address was in Phoenix, deputies said.
The attempted robbery occurred shortly after 10 a.m. when a man, carrying a pipe and a duffle bag, knocked on the door of a home in the 7000 block of Yorkshire Avenue that had plumbing-business trucks parked in the driveway, the Orange County sheriff’s deputies said. The intruder told the woman who answered the door that he needed to speak to her husband about a plumbing emergency. The woman said she would call her husband at work.
Seconds after she pressed the speed dial, the gunman pushed his way into the house, knocked the phone out of her hand, tied her up and demanded money, Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino said.
The husband heard the robbery over the phone and called deputies, who apprehended Perez in front of the house. Police said Perez was carrying a loaded .25-caliber handgun.
