A 38-year-old Fillmore man was killed late Thursday when his car slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer shortly after he left a viewing of his grandfather’s body at a funeral home, authorities said Friday.
Raymond Hernandez died at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Vineyard and Montgomery avenues in the community of El Rio, the California Highway Patrol said.
Hernandez was traveling south on Vineyard Avenue when his 1995 Honda Civic collided with the truck, which was turning left across his path onto Montgomery Avenue, authorities said.
Truck driver Maximiliano Villegas, 48, of Oxnard was not injured and the load of insulation he was hauling remained intact, authorities said.
