A San Diego teenager riding in a minivan was killed when an SUV skidded out of control and struck his vehicle on the Ventura Freeway, authorities said.
Garrett Owen Rhoades, 17, died Friday about an hour after the 10 p.m. crash, California Highway Patrol Officer Leland Tang said.
Steven Gottlieb of Thousand Oaks lost control of his Ford Explorer while entering the freeway too fast on wet pavement at Topanga Canyon Boulevard, authorities said. His vehicle struck the minivan driven by Linda Loehr of Rancho Santa Fe.
Gottlieb was not arrested but an investigation was underway, Tang said.
Gottlieb and Loehr were treated for minor injuries.
