Saving Marine Life for Future Generations
- Share via
My goodness, your headline “Fishing Permanently Banned Around the Channel Islands” (Oct. 24) suggests that there is no place to fish. Yet your map shows only a small portion of the area to be off-limits.
We have fished off the California coast for more than 50 years. We heartily endorse the ban. It will revive the fish populations and other marine wildlife. The issue goes beyond recreation and commercial interests; it goes to the heart of our food supply. If these fish become extinct, we lose food for now and future generations.
We are grateful that some of the money from our fishing licenses is used to study and make recommendations to preserve our California fisheries. Our heartfelt thanks go to the California Fish and Game Commission for its visionary vote.
