O.C. Gas Line Break Forces Evacuations

A car crashed into a Garden Grove apartment complex Monday and ruptured a gas line, prompting authorities to evacuate residents while a utility crew repaired the break.
No one was hurt in the accident, which occurred about 5:30 p.m. when a 1989 Toyota hit the Malabar Apartments complex in the 9700 block of Bixby Avenue.
About 15 people were evacuated and the road shut down about 200 feet on either side of the complex as Southern California Gas Co. workers took about three hours to fix the leak, company spokeswoman Jennifer Gonzalez said.
Bixby Avenue was reopened about 8:30 p.m. and residents were expected to return soon afterward, she said.
