New spot to hoof it

A new hiking and horse riding trail opened last week in the hills above Diamond Valley Lake near Hemet.
The 6.5-mile North Hills Trail rambles over soft chaparral and grassland, giving alternating views of the 4,500-acre reservoir and Inland Empire towns. The terrain is steep, the jaunt strenuous, so watch for loose footing. Picnicking and parking are available. Fees are $5 for horse riders, $2 for hikers and free for children younger than 13.
