Welfare Rolls on the Rise in 2 East Bay Counties

The number of families receiving government aid in Alameda and Contra Costa counties is rising, hitting levels not seen since 2002.
According to the most recent figures, 482,301 families received welfare in the two East Bay counties during the first three months of the year, the highest quarterly number recorded since September 2002.
