A motorcyclist was killed early Monday after he was thrown from his bike when it struck a disabled vehicle abandoned in the freeway carpool lane in Seal Beach, officials said.
Frank Nicolas Jr., 40, of Santa Ana died at the scene of the 3:45 a.m. accident on the northbound side of the San Diego Freeway near the 7th Street exit, officials said.
Nicolas’ motorcycle struck an unoccupied car that had been in an earlier accident just east of the Los Angeles County line but was still in the carpool lane, California Highway Patrol officials said.
It was not immediately known who was responsible for moving the car.
The incident remains under investigation.
