New Budget More Than Originally Proposed

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved a $3.27-billion budget for the fiscal year that began July 1, a $29-million increase over the initial proposal.

The Sheriff’s Department, district attorney’s office and public defender’s office are among the county agencies that received increased funding.

County officials said extra money was available because state cuts aren’t expected to be as large as projected, discretionary revenue such as property and sales tax will generate more than expected and county departments have not been using their full funding.
