Authorities say a teenager who was killed in a traffic crash saved his younger brother’s life nearly three years ago.
Early Saturday morning, Gilbert Gerard Salazar, 19, died when his car ran off Old Sonoma Road and hit a tree.
Napa Police Cmdr. Steve Potter said Salazar was credited with saving his little brother’s life in August 2001.
Ismael “Ishi” Carrillo Jr., who was 5 at the time, suffered severe burns on his thighs and abdomen, chest, side and back when a cigarette lighter he was playing with ignited. Salazar grabbed his brother and rolled him on the ground to extinguish the flames.
