A man was sentenced to four years in prison Friday for shooting his dog 13 times with a pellet gun last year, authorities said.
William Howard, 53, was convicted of cruelty to animals and neglect after a veterinarian discovered 26 other old pellet wounds on the dog, and a fruit pit embedded in one ear.
The dog, a Staffordshire terrier mix, survived the shooting, which a witness reported to police, and has been adopted.
