State Shuts Schools With Thatched Roofs

The southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu has ordered hundreds of schools with flammable thatched roofs to close until they have built concrete ones, after 90 children died in a blaze.
Police blamed dry coconut leaves used for fuel in a kitchen for sparking the fire at private Lord Krishna Middle School in the town of Kumbakonam. It then spread to thatched roofs, which collapsed on students.
Five school officials have been arrested on negligence charges.
