Bush Isn’t Worthy of an NAACP Invitation

Re “NAACP Hasn’t Advanced Anything in a Long Time,” Commentary, July 15: John H. McWhorter claims that President Bush has snubbed the NAACP because the organization is passe.
I wonder why the group wanted Bush ruining its annual convention in the first place.
The NAACP should have thrown the first punch by holding a news conference and telling the public that because Bush was never elected, just selected by duck-hunting Supreme Court justices making a quackery of American democracy, it would refuse to entertain the notion that he speak at its annual convention.
The likes of the war-mongering Bush don’t deserve to lick the boots of anyone in the NAACP. Out the door in 2004, that’s what I say. Then no one will have to worry about inviting him anywhere.

Bush recently declined to appear at the NAACP, citing his reluctance to appear in a hostile environment.
I imagine similar logic was used when he volunteered to serve in the National Guard rather than face a hostile environment in Vietnam.
