Shock Holds Off Silver Stars

The Detroit Shock, which led by as many as 17 points, withstood a late rally by the San Antonio Silver Stars for a 77-71 victory Sunday in front of 7,232 at Auburn Hills, Mich.
Ruth Riley scored 21 points for the Shock (10-11), which ended a three-game losing streak. Swin Cash added 18 points and 12 rebounds for Detroit. Shannon Johnson led San Antonio (6-15) with 25 points.
New York 75, Charlotte 58 -- In front of 11,630 at Madison Square Garden, the Liberty won by its largest margin of victory since a 71-54 decision at Cleveland last Aug. 17.
Elena Baranova led the Liberty (10-11) with 19 points. Tammy Sutton-Brown led the Sting (10-9) with 14 points.
Minnesota 63, Phoenix 60 -- Katie Smith scored 33 points to help the Lynx (12-9) hand the Mercury (8-12) its fifth loss in a row in front of 6,587 at Phoenix. She scored the Lynx’s final six points in the final minute. The Mercury missed two shots from beyond the three-point arc in the final nine seconds.
Sacramento 81, Washington 71 -- Rookie Alana Beard scored 27 points and Chamique Holdsclaw had 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Mystics (9-11), but it wasn’t enough to beat the Monarchs (10-11) in front of 7,020 in Arco Arena.
